Privacy Policy

IIIF 3D Viewer ("the Service") respects the privacy of its users and handles information obtained through the provision of the Service as described below.

1. Operator

The Service is operated by Satoru Nakamura and Jun Ogawa (The University of Tokyo) for research and educational purposes.

2. Information We Collect

The Service has no account registration feature and does not ask users to directly enter personal information such as names or email addresses. However, to improve the Service and understand usage, we may automatically collect the following information:

  • Access date and time, pages viewed, and referrer
  • Approximate region of the user (estimated from the IP address; the IP address itself is not stored)
  • Device information such as browser type and version, OS, and screen size

3. Analytics (Google Analytics)

The Service uses Google Analytics 4, provided by Google LLC, to analyze usage. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect the information described above. The collected information is managed in accordance with Google's privacy policy.

If you do not wish to allow the use of cookies, you can refuse data collection by disabling cookies in your browser settings or by using the opt-out add-on linked above.

Please note that if you specify a manifest URL or similar value as a query parameter, the page address including that URL may be recorded by analytics. Please refrain from entering confidential URLs.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service uses the following third-party services, and information may be obtained by each provider when you access them. Please review each service's privacy policy for details on how they handle data.

  • IIIF manifest servers: Requests are sent directly from your browser to the server hosting the manifest URL you enter or select. The operator of that server may obtain access information (such as your IP address).
  • YouTube (video embeds): The Service embeds videos in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). When you play a video, Google / YouTube may obtain information and set cookies.
  • Hosting (Vercel): The Service is delivered on infrastructure provided by Vercel Inc., and server access logs (IP address, user agent, etc.) may be recorded.

5. Purpose of Use

We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:

  • Understanding usage of the Service and improving its features
  • Responding to unauthorized access or incidents

We do not use the information to identify individual users, nor do we sell the collected information to third parties.

6. Disclosure to Third Parties

Except as required by law, we do not provide the collected information to third parties without the user's consent. However, the handling of information associated with the analytics and third-party services described above follows each provider's privacy policy.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

The contents of this policy may be changed without notice as necessary. Any changes take effect when posted on this page.
